Photo story photos

These are a few of my photo story photos. In no particular order. I decided to do a photo story about myself. Things that I like and inspire me. I apologize for uploading late. I've been working like crazy this week and just have not had the time. :/

Portraits

My best friend and her fiancĂ©e found out they are expecting a few months ago (IT'S A GIRL!), and since I was taking this class, asked me if I'd want to try to take some maternity photos. I was very excited to be offered the chance to capture some of these memories for them. We took these photos at 18 weeks. Since the only time I was able to meet with her was at night, we had to make due with what we had for a background. I used the sheet as the backdrop. I plan to take more photos throughout her pregnancy to create a timeline.

In these first three photos I really tried to work with her shadow. I played around with the brightness and contrast.

This one came out a little washed out, but I found that I liked it in black and white.

Clone Tool

Here I took out the telephone pole. It was a bit challenging, but this is definitely a  tool that I will use over and over again.

Filters

These are my filtered photos.
Edited:
This one I added the Softglow effect. I like the way it makes it more white, almost as if it's covered in snow.

This one I used the cartoon filter. I thought it added a fun texture to the photo. It looks different, but interesting.

Dodge & Burn

The three photo's I chose were ones that I had taken for previous weeks, but I just was interested to see what how I could change them with these new skills.
Edited:
I basically darkened the entire image except for the sun. I think It helps not wash out the trees in the sky to have them be darker. Along with the trees on the bright snow.

This one I darkened the couch under his head ad I darkened the black parts of his eyes. It makes his face pop out a little more. and it helps his eyes from looking greenish.

Edited:
This one I just lightened the seed pods. Although it is not that much different, I think that it brings out a little more detail in the pods.

Photoshop

Wanted to have a little fun with this one. Stuck my favorite little guy into a snowy scene. I like how his fur is shiny and it kind of looks like the sun is shining on his back :)

Landscape Photos

I was really looking forward to this assignment. I love taking photos of mountains and sunsets so I figured this would be a great opportunity. Unfortunately, it's winter time in Vermont, so everything's pretty dull..
This photo^^ is one of my favorites. I really like how the tree on the right hangs over the picture. I wish the other tree wasn't there, but it's not like I could cut it down :)
This is another one of my favorites^^ I guess I just liked the barn.
And this one^^ is probably my third favorite. I guess I like the curve of the road with the tree line.

Asthetics

I found this website with a bunch of great photos. If you get some time you should check them out.

Rule of Thirds

These are the photos that I took for my rule of thirds photos. The first one I took of just the trees with some of the mountains in the background. I took both of these photos just moments after each other. The second one I tried to capture a little more of the sunset as well as the trees and the mountains. I definitely think that the second came out better. To me it's much more interesting to look at visually.

Color

These are my color photos. Hope you guys enjoy!
I really like this one, I think it's the angle and the way the camera picked up the dust on the shelf.

Lighting

I really enjoyed this assignment because it's very interesting to see three of the same things, look so different, and yet so the same. I took pictures of a tree at my relatives house. This top one was my favorite. I like how the snow isn't white, but rather peachy. This is from the sunset that was behind me. This next one is a bit darker, taken only 15 minutes later. The sky is different in the background, as well as the color of the tree itself.  And then this one was the last one, taken about 15 minutes after the previous. I was surprised how light it came out, since it was considerably dark outside at this point. I would have liked to take a picture from the other side of the tree looking out towards a mountain range into the sunset, but unfortunately I didn't appropriate clothing to walk around in two feet of snow. Hope you guys enjoy these, and I'm sorry for posting so last minute!

Assignment #2 - Collage

This week I focused on the outdoors. We got a bit of snow this past weekend, so I thought I'd try to find the beauty in it.

Assignement Number One - Favorites

These two were the ones that I really liked the best:

I really liked this one because of the way the light reflects off his face. and the brightness of the carpet next to the shadow border along the bottom.

This shot was harder for me to choose. It's shot at a very similar angle, just a little lower. I like the focus on his face, but his body is less focused.

Assignment Number One

First I will post most of the photos that I took this week. My dog was my inspiration, since he's just so cute. ;] I started by just taking pictures, messing around with my camera, and ended up with these.. :]
